About the event
Rachel Baker is a Djambarrpuyngu woman from northeast Arnhem Land in the NT. Her skin name is Galikali. Rachel has been learning traditional weaving processes and techniques for many years under the careful guidance of master weaver and Milingimbi Traditional Owner, Lily Roy. She is the proud founder of Australian Woven Connections - a small, independent Yolngu business. Rachel is the first Yolngu Anthropology student at USQ and a Guest Lecturer on board cruise ships with Coral Expeditions.
Join Rachel for a hands-on workshop in a beautiful bush setting at Riyala in Noonamah. Under Rachel's guidance, you will prepare and cook naturally harvested bush dyes and dye your own pandanus fibres. After the drying process, Rachel will introduce you to traditional weaving techniques and you can start weaving your own mat or earrings.
